Hiking
The Reichenstein Group, whose most outstanding peak is the pyramid of the 2 196 metre Admont Kalbling, belongs partly to the Gesäuse National Park and is a veritable Alpine treasure. The construction in 1941 of the Oberst-Klinke Hut, which can be reached from the Kaiserau via a toll road, began the opening up of this area. Above all hikers and climbers are offered a wide field of activities from gentle alm walks to demanding climbs.Walking enthusiasts can hike from the Oberst-Klinke Hut to others over the Filzboden to the Mödling Hut. Attractive round routes lead to Wagenbänk Alm, open to the public, with its local peak Lahngang (1 778 m) either from the Kaiserau or the Oberst-Klinke Hut.
More demanding is the tour on the Admont Kalbling (2 196 m). The passage from the Riffelgrat to the Kreuzkogel or to the Sparafeld ( 2 247 m) is more spectacular wíth special views of the world of the Gesäuse Mountains.
Take advantage of the chance to spend the night on the Kaiserau. Kaiserau Lodge offers comfortable appartments, either as self-service or with half or full pension. For small or large groups we can offer special areas also with catering. This means that you can take off for the mountains in the early morning.

The following possibilities for climbing or hiking tours are available:
The Kalbling Mountian Road connects the Kaiserau with the Oberst-Klinke Hut (5 km, walking time ca, 1 hour). The road is free for mountain bikers in summer.
1. Oberst-Klinke Hut: Hiking route 601 along the Jägerboden or over the toll road (1 hour)
2. Lahngang: Via the Oberst-Klinke Hut: Path No. 610 via Wagenbänk Alm, West peak - East peak - Oberst-Klinke Hut (4 hours).
3. Kreuzkogel: ascent over the Alpsteig (path No. 602) to the Scheiblegger Hochalm and on to the Kreuzkogel (2 1/2 hours). From the Scheiblegger Hochalm ascent to the Hahnstein (1/2 hour).
4. Jägersteig: The Jägersteig (path No. 603) links the Oberst-Klinke Hut with the Scheiblegger Hochalm. Very steep, difficulty 1+, only for the experienced!
5. Riffel: The Riffel is the ridge linking the Kreuzkogel to the Riffelspitz (1+, only for the experienced), further ascent to Kalbling and/or the Sparafeld peak. From the Riffelspitz both 1 hour.
6. Kalbling/Sparafeld: Variant 1 as above via Alpsteig - Scheiblegger Hochalm - Kreuzkogel and Riffel (path No. 602, 601 a) 4 hours (descent to Oberst-Klinke Hut 1 1/2 hours). Variant 2 in the opposite direction via the Oberst-Klinke Hut (total 5 hours).
We must ask all hikers and walkers to respect the Alpine landscape. The Kaiserau and its game animals forms a sensitive ecosystem. Please observe environmental protection with respect to both flora and fauna. Avoid any form of disturbance and keep exclusively to the marked paths.
